2011 The Offroad Shop Short Course

The final round of the 2011 SAORRA series, “The Off Road Shop Short Course” at Sedan, has been run and won. You shouldn’t be surprised at the winner.
32 competitors took to the track, with a hot wind and dust in abundance Saturday, and plenty of dust Sunday. Spectators approved of the split start lines, and were treated to hotly contested heats both days.
Carl Haby took out the honours at the completion of the event, winning a hat trick, with – fastest lap, – 05.04.35 for 7.3 kms, 1st in Pro Class, and 1st outright.
2nd in Pro class, 2nd outright was #42 Wally Francombe/Maree Francombe and 3rd in Pro class, 3rd outright was #971 Scott Schiller/Nathan Schutz.
#122 of Colin Johnson/Chris Johnson took out Prolite class, with #189 Paul Adams/Andrew Taylor 2nd, and #166 of Danny Patard 3rd.
Super 1650 class was won by #274 of David Adams/Roger Cox, with #211 Ken Philp/Ben Philp 2nd, and #2111 Ben Philp/Ken Philp 3rd.
#319 of John Sullivan/Adam Abela was the lone Sportsman.
#412 Brett Reimann/Steve Hutchinson/Blake Smith took out Extreme 2WD, #413 Matt Trieweiler/Aaron Bennetts were 2nd and #481 Clive Randall/Curtis Randall rounded out the class.
#522 of Scott Gould had a great return after a couple of years away, taking out Performance 2wd, while #551 of Roger Davis/Ethan Davis were unlucky to have their front suspension fall apart during their last heat.
#703 Barry Edwards/Dale Cagney flew the flag on behalf of the Production 4WD class.
The track has undergone some modifications in the lead up to the event, and the tabletop was the scene of some heart stopping moments, with vehicles getting some
spectacular air underneath them. #164 of Darryl Nissan/Andrew Harness received the award for longest jump and if there had been an award for most out of control jump, it would have gone to the #166 of Danny Patard. His jump had everyone gasping in amazement, and he was a crowd pleaser throughout both days, but he was not to finish his last heat as the torsion bar in his vehicle gave up the ghost.
All in all, it was a good turnout to the end of season, and Gawler Road Knights Car Club now look to the 22nd/23rd October, when they will hold the Denise Gosden Memorial Ladies and Juniors Event.
