Three of our club members, Trevor Snow, paired with Darrin Jocey-Prior, and Shayne Ramm/Rob Ward, travelled to Victoria over the June long weekend, to compete in the Sea Lake Mallee Rally, held around Lake Tyrell.
A fantastic entry field of 126 competitors was seen at the campgrounds on Friday night for scrutineering, which was held in cold conditions.
Prologue was conducted on Saturday. Trevor claimed before the event, that to sit mid field would be a good place to be. He was rewarded with a credible 61st, but after seeding of other competitors, was put back to 63rd. Between the first placed vehicle and 66th, was only a minute. Rob Ward, driving Shayne Ramm’s 126, placing 77th.
The start of the event was fast and furious, and within the first few kms, vehicles were already being sidelined due to rollovers, blown motors, gearbox/clutch/crankshaft/cv issues.
Trevor/Darrin got away very well, taking the lead over the vehicle they started with. They had a trouble free run all day, only needing to refuel at the mandatory hour break between sections. At the end of the 4th lap, fists were seen pumping the air in the cockpit, with a wonderful finish result of 36th outright of the 67 finishers, and of the 25 Pro Lites entered, and 14 that finished, he was 8th in class.
Rob/Shayne had a slower start, but still got away well, with Rob showing promise as a driver. He is new to the club, and I hope he is enjoying himself more at each event. They completed 1 lap of the track, passing all the sidelined vehicles, and hoping for a trouble free run, but unfortunately were then sidelined with CV issues.
After the event, Trevor commented that Sea Lake Mallee Rally may not be Finke, but it is a great and well run event, and he would urge other club members to put it on their bucket list.
