Testing times at 2016 Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro, Parilla

With fantastic weather in store for this event, competitors began arriving at the track Friday afternoon and onwards.

It was great to see so many GRKCC members ready for competition. Talk flowed freely Friday night, and all were eager to get up Saturday morning to get scrutiny over, and make any last minute adjustments before Prologue at 12 noon.

The vehicles waited in line for their turn, hoping to get a good time for the 6km. The only vehicle not to gain a time was #711 Tim Margitich/Pam Margitich, suffering fuel issues, which prevented them completing this section. All others finished, and placings were as follows: #36 Matt Curtis/Jason Lloyd 5th, #158 Trevor Snow/Darrin Jocey-Prior 8th, #176 Sam Daniele 9th, #233 Bodie Tickner/Haylee Hook 10th, #621 Toby Whateley/Simon Herrmann 12th, #623 Tony Whateley/Doug Carthew 14th, #126 Robbie Ward/Shayne Ramm 17th, #37 Richard Andrews/Jamie & Lauren Andrews 18th, #253 Hadyn Vanstone/Sam & Steven Vanstone 20th, #584 Daniel Ramm/Tyson Ramm 22nd, Curtis Randall/Clive Randall 23rd, #768 Ben Nixon/Tom Margitich 26th.

Section 1 started at 2.30, with vehicles taking off two at a time. Unfortunately #711 Tim Margitich/Pam Margitich did not make the start line, with ongoing fuel issues. Everyone else got away cleanly, with 2 laps to be completed in this section. The first casualty was #158 Trevor Snow/Darrin Jocey-Prior, who had a soft rollover, but managed to be righted by recovery, and after a look over the vehicle, carried on to complete both laps in 23rd position. #768 Ben Nixon/Tom Margitich had clutch issues on lap 1, #254 Hadyn Vanstone/Sam & Steven Vanstone as well as #36 Richard Andrews/Jamie & Lauren Andrews had engine problems, also on lap 1, with the latter 2 crews taking no further part in the event. #36 Matt Curtis/Jason Lloyd finished in 5th, #176 Sam Daniele was 9th, #233 Bodie Tickner/Haylee Hook were 10th, #126 Robbie Ward/Shayne Ramm were 13th, #623 Tony Whateley/Doug Carthew were 15th, #584 Daniel Ramm/Tyson Ramm were 17th, #212 Curtis Randall/Clive Randall were 20th and #621 Toby Whateley/Simon Herrmann rounded our teams out in 22nd.

The twist to this section was that each competitors fastest lap would then determine the start positions for Sundays Section 2 – 8 laps of the course, which was to be a reverse grid –  the slowest vehicles starting first.

Due to issues from section 1, #768 Ben Nixon/Tom Margitich were to be the first vehicle off the line, in position 25. After them, in position 22, was #212 Curtis Randall/Clive Randall, then #584 Daniel Ramm/Tyson Ramm in position 20, #623 Tony Whateley/Doug Carthew -18, #621 Toby Whateley/Simon Herrmann -17, #158 Trevor Snow/Darrin Jocey-Prior -15, #126 Robbie Ward/Shayne Ramm -14, #233 Bodie Tickner/Haylee Hook -11, #176 Sam Daniele- 9, and #36 Matt Curtis/Jason Lloyd -5.

#158 Trevor Snow-Darrin Jocey-Prior were all lined up ready to go, when it was discovered a seal had blown in the gearbox, and they were forced to retire. Next out was #621 Toby Whateley/Simon Herrmann with suspension problems, followed by #176 Sam Daniele with gearbox problems.  #623 Toby Whateley/Doug Carthew had a gentle roll on lap 2, were righted and finished the lap, only to be put out with shocker problems on lap 3. #584 Daniel Ramm/Tyson Ramm had front end problems and did not start lap 5, #768 Ben Nixon/Tom Margitich rolled on lap 5, putting them out of the event.

The other vehicles completed all 8 laps, with only #36 Matt Curtis/Jason Lloyd having any issues, when they started late after their 1/2 hr service break.

At the completion of all laps, #36 Matt Curtis/Jason Lloyd finished 6th o/r and 4th in class, #233 Bodie Tickner/Haylee Hook were 7th o/r and 1st in class, #126 Robbie Ward/Shayne Ramm were 10th o/r and 3rd in class, with #212 Curtis Randall/Clive Randall  12th o/r and 4th in class.

Congratulations to the place getters, commiserations to those who didnt finish, and on the whole, a mammoth effort at a great event.

Thanks to all volunteer help, sponsors and officials for aiding our guys to have such fun.
